Critical Social Inquiry and Digital Pedagogy Librarian at Hampshire College

The Hampshire College Library Center seeks dynamic and innovating applicants
for the position of Critical Social Inquiry and Digital Pedagogies Librarian.
The ideal candidate will be excited to support the teaching, research and
pedagogical needs of the social sciences and to support digital pedagogies at
Hampshire, a unique academic environment that promotes creativity, design, and
experimenting.

Reporting to the Director of the Library, the primary responsibilities of the
Critical Social Inquiry and Digital Pedagogies Librarian include teaching
research education sessions, one-on-one research support in the
interdisciplinary social sciences that include cross discipline work with
faculty in history, psychology, anthropology, economics, sociology, political
science, law, geography, urban studies, philosophy, cultural studies and
education. The librarian will secondarily play a pivotal role in shaping the
library’s social media identity, supporting the development of digital and
media tools and collections, and interactive spaces.

In addition, to providing library instruction to students, the librarian will
conduct outreach with faculty and students in the School of Critical Social
Inquiry, collaboratively develop the library’s Education Research Program and
support its implementation across the curriculum, targeting skill development
to the divisional system.  The Librarian will evaluate and select print and
electronic materials to support the School of Critical Social Inquiry’s
curriculum.  Additional duties include leadership of digital reference service
and a virtual “Info Bar” for remote library users.

We seek particular strengths in teaching experience, technology and outreach.
Collaborative teamwork is an essential aspect of the position.  Ideal
candidates will be individuals able to build bridges and establish deep
collaborative relationships with the School of Critical Social Inquiry, and
with library partners including Information Technology, the Creativity Center,
and Five Colleges.

Position requires a MLS form an ALA accredited institution.  A second
Master’s degree in a related discipline is preferred.  The successful
candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience, that demonstrates
excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to engage and further discussions
of the role of digital in the teaching and learning activities of the library;
the initiative and creativity to manage projects both independently and as part
of a team; and have a deep commitment to service and outreach in an academic
community.  Knowledge and experience with trends in higher education and
academic libraries. The successful candidate will have experience with
collection development, acquisitions, research education instruction and
outreach.  The librarian should have the ability to use technology and instruct
others in the use of technology.
